Brent Barringer is an associate in the firm's Business, Tax and Estate Planning Group. He focuses his practice on counseling high net worth individuals, business owners and entrepreneurs in all aspects of tax, business, asset protection and estate planning. He specializes in designing and implementing tax-efficient wealth transfer and business succession strategies for the owners of closely held companies. In addition, Brent advises clients in the area of Medicaid and long-term care planning.
- Advised two generations of owners of a real estate “empire” in the transfer of $30 million in holdings to a family limited partnership. The limited partnership units were subsequently sold by the first generation owners to an intentionally defective grantor trust.
- Reviewed the estate plan of a wealthy married couple and cured tax defects which may have cost them an additional $12 million in estate taxes if not detected.
- Structured and implemented a series of Delaware limited liability companies that segregated various real estate properties into separate cells for high-profile Massachusetts business owners concerned with asset protection.
- Consulted with Wilmington Trust Company in Delaware to establish a Delaware asset protection trust for a Boston doctor seeking to limit his personal liability.
- Worked closely with a prominent Boston business owner and his wife to execute an estate and asset protection plan.
- Drafted numerous buy-sell agreements (both cross-purchase and redemptions) for the owners of closely held businesses.
- Drafted special needs and supplemental needs trusts for parents of children with disabilities.
