Mr. Ley joined the firm in
1993 after 15 years of real estate practice at Goodwin, Procter & Hoar
and the Boston office of McDermott, Will & Emery. His practice covers
all aspects of commercial (office and retail), industrial and multi-family
real estate, including representation of lenders and developers in development,
sales, leasing, financing, permitting, subdivision and general real estate
issues.
He has represented developers
and lenders in a number of complex development projects, including alternative
energy projects such as refuse-to-energy supported by municipal contracts,
hydroelectric and biomass; the acquisition and development of major portions
of a 200-acre mixed use project involving the reuse of a former Naval
air station; the construction and financing of a Maryland apartment project
involving a unique financing lease structure required by foreign investing
entities; and various other multi-family projects in Massachusetts, Rhode
Island, Maryland and Virginia totaling over 7,000 units. He has represented
clients in the acquisition, development and leasing of over 1.5 million
square feet of office, retail and mixed use projects, including the leasing
of substantially all of the 700,000 square feet of office space developed
by a client in the State Street South complex in North Quincy, Massachusetts.
In general, he has represented landlords and tenants in the leasing of
over 2.5 million square feet of commercial, retail, R&D and industrial
space in New England and nationally. He also has presented programs on
leasing issues for the National Business Institute.
Mr. Ley is a member
of the Real Estate Finance Association division of the Greater Boston
Real Estate Board, the Massachusetts Conveyancers Association, the Real
Property sections of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Boston
Bar Association, and is an approved title attorney for major national
title insurance companies. A retired Marine Colonel naval aviator,
he has also been a biographee in Who's Who in American Law, Who's
Who in the East and Who's Who in America, and he participates
in various civic organizations, such as being an advisory board member
for the Greater Boston Salvation Army and a trustee of the USS Constitution
Museum. As the spirit moves, he also is a high-speed driving instructor
for a number of regions of the Porsche Club of America.
Also, Mr. Ley was named as a Massachusetts Super Lawyer for two of the
last three years.
Mr. Ley received his A.B. in
1967 from Dartmouth College and his J.D. in 1975 from Boston University
School of Law, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the latter's
alumni association.
